Deer Fern Coastal Forest, the Birds and our Garden.
If you have never seen the Sunshine Coast, its time for a visit. A gorgeous, 40 minute ferry ride from West Vancouver at Horseshoe Bay brings you to our hidden gem on the West Coast. A two day getaway would feel like a weeks vacation. Don't forget to bring your walking shoes, binoculars and for those rare days....a rain coat.

An amazing sunset with thick fog embracing the coast. Three robins ready to fledge.
Ferns are our passion and the Mule Deer wander through
daily, nibbling on everything except the ferns. In keeping with the
name, we have planted many Deer Fern and Sword Fern, native to coastal forests, to
accompany the other species of native ferns that grow here. Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir and Grand Fir build the coastal forest we see around us. Our property boast all of these species. A diverse
birdlife thrives in our forest--woodpeckers, hummingbirds, Northern
Flickers and ravens, to mention only a few. In winter, the music of
the thrush is a moment of magic. Chattering red squirrels will entertain
you, as will the deer and the birds. The eagles fly by constantly, can't promise you'll see them....but probably... It is extremely rare, however, there is chance to see pods of whales or dolphins. In 2007/2008 a Golden Eagle has graced us with his beauty.
"This has been a wonderful place to stay; your house is beautiful, all in all, a five star."
Renie and Bob, Alberta, Canada

Multi coloured iris and rhododendron, 'Canadian Sunset', just a few of the flowers left, post deer.
Feel stillness, a rare moment in our lives. Step outside watch and hear the birds, feel the garden and be still. Again, we love ferns, combined with Oregon Grape, Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir makes for the perfect West Coast experience.

A rare glimpse at a raven fledgling and the bird bath in constant motion.
The Bird Bath has a never-ending line-up of birds waiting for a dip. The garden itself changes year to year. We have two small perennial gardens, four banks of California Lilacs and Heavenly Bamboo, some grasses or sedges to fill in the blank spots. The Mason Bees are active March to April. Our home sits in the middle of an acre of coastal forest . The ravine is an ecological safe haven for wildlife; racoons, bear, coyote and of course, the mule deer.

Mule Deer pre-gladiolus. Gladiolus post Mule Deer.
"We
had a great time here. It’s a lovely place and great people. It’s
more that just a B & B. We hope to visit again some day."
Declan, Ireland & Yonath, Swizerland
